Abstract
This book by Clare Fletcher and Daniela Herrmann examines corruption as a transnational phenomenon that extends beyond national borders and affects global political and economic systems. It argues that corruption is not only a domestic governance issue but is increasingly embedded in international trade, finance, development aid, and cross-border networks. The authors analyze how corrupt practices are facilitated by globalization, weak regulatory frameworks, and the interaction between public institutions and private actors. The book also assesses the scale and impact of corruption, including its effects on economic development, institutional trust, and social inequality. It explores how corruption undermines governance structures and distorts markets at both national and international levels.
Finally, it evaluates countermeasures and policy responses, emphasizing the importance of coordinated international action, stronger legal frameworks, transparency initiatives, and institutional reforms. The work highlights that effective anti-corruption strategies require cooperation across states and sectors due to the global nature of the problem.
