Abstract

This book is a collection of speeches and essays by former Japanese Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda, reflecting on his long-term engagement with China and his views on global affairs. It examines China’s development, the evolution of China–Japan relations, and broader international challenges. A central theme is the role of “Eastern wisdom,” especially ideas rooted in Confucian philosophy, in addressing modern global issues. Fukuda emphasizes values such as harmony, mutual respect, and peaceful coexistence as essential principles for diplomacy and international cooperation. The book also discusses China’s growing influence in global governance and supports the idea of building a “community of shared future for mankind” as a framework for achieving long-term peace and stability. Overall, the work presents a perspective that combines political reflection with cultural insight, advocating stronger international understanding and the application of traditional philosophical values to contemporary global challenges
