Abstract
Microcredit for Poverty Alleviation: China’s Practice of Solving the Loan Problem for Poor People examines China’s innovative financial policies designed to help poor rural households gain access to credit. The book explains that obtaining affordable loans is a global challenge for poor populations because financial institutions often view low-income borrowers as high risk. Drawing on China’s poverty-reduction experience, the author analyzes how targeted microcredit programs were created to overcome barriers such as lack of collateral, high lending costs, and limited financial services in rural areas.
The book discusses policy design, financial product innovation, and the establishment of service systems that make loans accessible, affordable, and manageable for poor households. It also explores mechanisms ensuring that borrowers can use loans effectively for productive activities and repay them sustainably. Through case studies from provinces and counties in China, the book demonstrates how microcredit contributes to income growth, rural development, and long-term poverty reduction. Overall, the work presents China’s model of financial poverty alleviation and its role in promoting inclusive economic development.
