Abstract
This book challenges the long-standing assumption in modern philosophy that religious belief must be justified by independent rational proof. Instead, Lydia Schumacher argues that rationality itself is grounded in faith, particularly in the framework of Christian theology.
Drawing heavily on the thought of Thomas Aquinas, the author develops a constructive model of “theological philosophy,” where faith and reason are not opposed but intrinsically unified. She proposes that belief in the Christian God provides a coherent foundation for understanding human rationality, rather than being something that must be externally justified.
The work also emphasizes that rationality is not merely abstract or theoretical but is expressed through lived experience, moral virtues, and everyday life. By integrating theological doctrines such as creation, incarnation, and the Trinity into philosophical reasoning, Schumacher redefines rationality as something that emerges from participation in a faith-informed worldview.
Overall, the book contributes to contemporary debates in philosophical theology by offering a model in which faith is not irrational but the very condition for rational thought itself
