Abstract

Cancel (2013) examines storytelling and oral narrative traditions among five Bemba-speaking ethnic groups in northern Zambia. Drawing on ethnographic fieldwork, folklore theory, and recorded storytelling performances, the book explores narrative practices, performance contexts, cultural identities, and relationships between storytellers, audiences, and researchers. It incorporates digitized audio and video materials to document living oral traditions and contributes to scholarship on African folklore, oral literature, anthropology, and performance studies.
